Online part-time temporary position – 5 mentors to support international teams of KyivLEPP2021

Ukrainian Access to Justice School of Practice is pleased to announce a call for mentors for the teams of  KyivLEPP2021.

There are 7 teams in KyivLEPP this year – teams from Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, North Macedonia, Kenya, Tanzania and Sierra Leone who participate in the program. Read more about the teams and the problems they will work on during KyivLEPP2021 in our article: https://ua2j.school/en/news/kyivlepp-2021/ 

Mentors should meet the following criteria:

  • experience in state institutions / civil society organizations / social initiatives related to access to justice field;
  • successful implementation of solutions in access to justice (adopted by the state or target audience, stakeholders);
  • experience in organizing the expert groups work;
  • mentoring experience;
  • high communication skills;
  • high level of English;
  • good skills in group work planning.

Preference will be given to those candidates who are familiar with the context of the legal systems of the applicant countries, and to those candidates who have experience within the topics indicated by the participating teams: 

  • Kenya – rights of IDPs, refugees (equal access to documents in particular)
  • Kyrgyzstan – network development, the development of paralegals’ network 
  • Sierra Leone – labour rights of domestic workers
  • Tanzania – protection against gender-based violence
  • North Macedonia – the right to outpatient medical care for people with disabilities 
  • Ukraine (1) – legal security for tourists
  • Ukraine (2) – combination of technical solutions for the availability of legal aid, community-based paralegals help 

How will the mentors for KyivLEPP2021 teams be selected?

Step 1:

We expect to receive applications for participation in the competition by the end of December 5, 2021. Applications should contain:

  1. A CV which reflects your relevant experience and skills.
  2. Cover letter up to 200 words.
  3. Letters of recommendation (if available).
  4. Examples of documents / links / news which represent development and implementation of decisions in the access to justice field.

The specified information should be sent to the e-mail address kyiv.lepp@gmail.com with the indication in the subject of the letter “mentors competition”.

We accept applications for participation by the end of December 5, 2021. Applications sent after the deadline will not be considered.

Step 2:

We will invite participants of the first step of the competition to conduct an online interview in the period between December 6 and December 10, 2021. 

What do we expect from selected mentors?

7 national teams of the program will develop prototypes of their human-centered solutions in the access to justice field according to the design thinking methodology. They need mentorship in the process of implementing their solutions.

We expect that upon completion of the training course in December mentors will regularly meet online (for 6 months)  with their teams to consult and advise on the implementation of the action plan (note: the teams will form the action plan and plan for implementing prototype solutions for solving the problem during the training course). The teams should implement the developed prototypes in their countries.
