During the last three months, Pro Bono Lab program team of the Ukrainian Access to Justice School of Practice together with experts in law business worked on the creation of the first Ukrainian training course for public organizations from law business.
Legal Empowerment for NGOs is an educational online video course that involves the cooperation of NGOs, law firms and experts in order to improve the internal operational processes of NGOs.
The participants of the course are NGOs-champions, which have passed the competitive selection for training under separate thematic blocks.
Thematic blocks were formed on the basis of requests submitted by NGOs during the competitive selection. The thematic blocks were developed and filled jointly by the Program team and course mentors – experts from law and audit firms.
Course mentors are law firms and experts who have joined the training course as tutors for NGOs. Each thematic block has its own mentor, who teaches a video lesson, gives educational material to it, checks homework and provides recommendations for further activities of the NGOs.
The educational process is as follows:
- the champion organizations get access to the video lesson on the corresponding thematic block.
- thematic educational material is attached to the video lesson. For 1 week, organizations work on materials.
- after that, the organizations receive homework from the mentor of the thematic block, which they have to complete within 2 weeks. Homework is an independent work of participants on the documents of their NGO, which is related to the thematic block. For example: development or revision of a Code of ethics, Personal data protection policy, organization agreements, etc.
- completed homework is checked by the mentor, after which the mentor provides his recommendations to the NGO on the document itself, or on individual processes that should be implemented in the activities of the organization.
